Chennai Style Special Sambar

  • Small onion or Shallots makes the Sambar very delicious.
  • Pressure cook 1 cup of Arhar daal with 1/2 a spoon Turmeric powder.
  • Mash nicely , keep aside. Soak a lemon size Tamarind , take the juice and boil for 10 minutes.
  • In a kadai put a spoonful of oil , add Mustard seeds , few Methi seeds fry till Mustard sputters add Shallots .
  • Saute for 7, 8 minutes on low flame. Add this to the boiling Tamarind water.
  • After 5 to 7 minutes add 3 spoons of Sambhar powder , Curry leaves , and salt to taste.
  • Finally add the cooked daal and stir well.
  • Bring it to boil for about 5 minutes .
  • Sambhar is ready Authentic Chennai style Special Onion Sambar.
  • 😃 Hane it with Idli , Dosa , Uthappam , Appe or Rice...
